The Routeburn Track is a must see if you're in Fiordland
David S. Lee
Milford Sound/Piopiotahi is in the northwest of Fiordland National Park. Milford Road from Te Anau to Milford Sound is one of New Zealand's most scenic drives.
The Routeburn Track is partially open due to flood damage, however the track will reopen in full from 7 December 2020.
The northern end of the Milford Track is closed due to flood damage, however the southern section can be walked as a 3-day, 2-night return hike. The track will reopen in full from 30 November 2020.
Vast tussock-covered ridgelines and spectacular alpine vistas contrast with peaceful lakeside and valley beech forest in this wilderness adventure.
Fiordland National Park (established in 1952) has spectacular ice-carved fiords, lakes and valleys, rugged granite tops and pristine mountain to sea vistas.
