Whakaipo Campsite (self-contained only)

Located in Taupō area in the Central North Island region

For self contained vehicles only. Camp next to Lake Taupō and enjoy the farm park surroundings and the mountain bike track through native bush.

Fees

Free. 

Drive 10 km from Taupō through Acacia Bay and take Mapara road. Turn off into Whakaipo Bay at the DOC signpost. 

Drive down a well-maintained pumice road to the camping area. 

Certified self-contained vehicles only: No camping in tents or other vehicles. The facilities are not adequate to support campers who are not self-contained.

AED access

  • An automated external defibrillator (AED) has been installed at nearby Whakaipo Lodge, 1/504A Mapara Road, Acacia Bay, and is available for public use 24/7.
  • The AED is located on the wall to the right of the garage door, at the Lodge buildings at the top of the driveway. 
  • Call emergency services on 111 to get a code to access the locked cabinet.
