Wooded Gully loop walks
Located in Mount Thomas Forest Conservation Area in the Canterbury region

Introduction
There are numerous options, some suitable for children, for a loop walk from Wooded Gully picnic area.2.5 km | 3 km | 6 km
Dog access
Kereru Loop
Time: 1 hr return
Distance: 2.5 km
From the picnic area follow Wooded Gully Track for 20 minutes until you reach the junction of Kereru Track. Turn left to follow this track until it links up with Red Pine Track. Turn left onto this track to return to the car park.
This walk is suitable for family groups.
Forest Loop
Time: 1 hr return
Distance: 3 km
From the picnic area follow Wooded Gully Track for about 45 minutes until you reach the Forest Track turn-off. Turn right onto Forest Track and follow this though beech forest to join up with Summit Track. Return to the picnic area via the lower section of Summit Track.
Suitable for families of moderate fitness – there is a steep 300 m section after the bridge on Forest Track.
Red Pine Loop
Time: 2 hr return
Distance: 6 km
Red Pine Track starts at the campground end of Wooded Gully picnic area. The track follows the stream through beech forest for about 1 hour 30 minutes until it joins up with Wooded Gully Track. Just before the track swings right towards Wooded Gully there is a large rimu (red pine) that is well worth a look as it is one of the few remaining in this forest.
These tracks started from the Wooded Gully camping and picnic area.
From Oxford, follow Ashley Gorge Road for 13 km to Glentui. Continue on Birch Hill Road for 6 km then turn into Hayland Road and follow this for 4 km to the end.
Birch Hill Road can also be accessed from Rangiora via Loburn.
Wasp populations reach high numbers from January to March – wear light-coloured clothing and carry antihistamine cream/tablets as a precaution.
