Lochinvar Forest Conservation Area

Located in the Canterbury region

Enjoy tramping and hunting in this predominantly mountain beech/tawai forest—typical of the relatively dry eastern inland Waimakariri catchment.

Main plant species include: Mountain beech/tawai, kānuka, mānuka, matagouri, Hebe spp., bush lawyer, Coprosma liniarifolia and other Coprosma spp., Olearia spp., mountain ribbonwood/houhi, Asplenium richardii (fern). 

Notable fauna: Kea and New Zealand falcon/kārearea.
