Slip closes Hacket Track

Archived content: This media release was accurate on the date of publication.

The popular Hacket Track in Mount Richmond Forest Park has been temporarily closed due to a landslip making the track impassable.

Date:  14 April 2021

At this stage it’s not possible to say when it will open as Department of Conservation (DOC) staff are yet to assess the full extent of the damage and whether the track can be re-routed or repaired.

Mike Davies, Acting DOC Motueka Operations Manager, asks the public to stay off the track for their own safety.

“A portion of the hillside has slipped into the Hacket Creek taking the track with it, near the start of the track. We have closed the track from the carpark.”

The Hacket picnic area is still open for swimming and picnics. Access from the car park to Whispering Falls and the Hacket and Browning huts is closed.

Check Mount Richmond Forest Park for track closure information.
