We are sad to confirm that a volunteer hut warden's body was located near the Pinnacles Hut in what appears to have been a fall. The Police have recovered his body today with DOC support.
The 29 year old man was a DOC volunteer hut warden at Woolshed Creek Hut in the Mount Somers area in Canterbury. He was excited about volunteering for DOC.
He was last seen at the Pinnacles Hut on Thursday afternoon and was planning to return to the Woolshed Creek Hut.
DOC are devastated by this tragic loss of life and are focusing on support of his partner and family and returning the body as soon as possible.
The Department will be reviewing the tragic incident to determine what happened.
