Conservation has taken a hit in Pureora Forest Park with the loss of the field base located on Barryville Road.

Date:  06 September 2017

The ex-New Zealand Forest Service building was destroyed in the early hours of Wednesday morning in what is currently being described as a weather-event related fire.

Within 15 minutes the fire had taken hold of the building, destroying a large part of the office and cafeteria.

Fire investigators have been at the site this morning.

Shocked staff have been left to salvage what they can from the remainder of the office, while arrangements for alternative accommodation and security for the site is put in place.
