It's set to be a great summer for the manuhuri/travelers to Lake Waikaremoana. Waikaremoana Holiday Park has retained the very good 3Plus Qualmark and Bronze Enviromark ratings after being independently assessed against national accommodation quality standards. Improvements are ongoing at Waikaremoana Holiday Park.
The upgrade of all powered sites will be completed before Christmas. New powered heads, cabling and water to sites are being installed to ensure the sites are safe for our manuhuri. The fuel forecourt has had a makeover with environmental spill control measures upgraded. This brings the fuel point up to HASNO standard and protects the lake from spillage.
Also in time for the summer is the reinstatement of the hire of row boats at Lake Waikareiti in Te Urewera for manuhiri. The row boats provide for another experience to explore Lake Waikareiti not easily visible on the surrounding walking track. A favourite spot amongst anglers, Lake Waikareiti can be relied on for a great catch of rainbow or brown trout.
The popular row boats stopped operating, following a review in November last year. To safely reintroduce the row boats the Te Urewera Waikaremoana Biodiversity team have strengthened a weather system and key safety messages in the hire agreement are explained with the hirer.
All boats have been closely inspected and each boat is issued with a personal locator beacon users can activate if they believe the conditions are unsafe. The row boats can be hired from the Aniwaniwa Visitor Centre by the public for a small fee.
Trampers intending to walk Lake Waikaremoana can now expect to use the Hopuruahine Bridge when it reopens for use before Christmas.
