Fighting weeds just got easier for the local community with a Weedbusters community toolkit. The Taupō and Turangi communities can loan the kit through the Department of Conservation Taupō Office who set the kit up with Weedbusters funding.
Weeds are one of the greatest threats to New Zealand's biodiversity, many escaping from gardens or from illegally dumped garden waste. If you live in close vicinity to a conservation area, the risk of these introduced plants spreading, competing with and displacing native vegetation is much higher. If you live near a conservation area that you have noticed is overgrown with weeds, and you wish to help contain the problem then the Weedbusters kit is available to use.
The Weedbusters kit contains tools, some safe to use poisons, and protective gear to ensure health and safety. Included are books informing of weed control techniques and alternative plants to plant in your garden that are not invasive.
Weedbusters is a weeds awareness and education programme that aims to protect New Zealand's environment from the increasing weed problem.
