Hunters are now able to apply for new permits to hunt in Te Urewera.
Issuing of permits was temporarily suspended following the management transition to the Te Urewera Board, but are now available from the board’s agent Te Uru Taumatua.
Department of Conservation Eastern Bay of Plenty Partnership Manager Mike Jones said having the permit system up and running is a nice Christmas present for the hunting fraternity.
“We’d like to congratulate Te Uru Taumatua and the Te Urewera Board for working through this process quite quickly and getting it resolved so the public can continue to enjoy their traditional use of Te Urewera.”
He urged hunters to go to www.ngaituhoe.iwi.nz to get their permits issued and as always to take care while hunting.
