Seeing dolphins out on the water is one of the highlights of the Bay of Islands, but scientific studies show a decline in the bottlenose dolphins population with many calves not surviving their first year of life. It is important that everybody out and about in a boat helps look after them.

An adult female Northland brown kiwi was caught in a leghold trap near Waipapa township four weeks ago. The bird was taken to Whangarei Bird Recovery and was successfully released last week.
