Six baby kōura have been born at the Genesis Energy Freshwater Aquarium and are as curious to watch for visitors to the Tongariro National Trout Centre as cubs at a zoo.
Ranger Randal Hart who manages the aquarium was very excited when he spotted the baby kōura. “Poppa” Hart says “The baby kōura are little miniatures of their parents. Although small they are holding their own against the freshwater shrimp and adult kōura they share the tank with”.
If you haven’t yet meet New Zealand’s native fish at the aquarium on our beautiful back step, come and meet our babies, and explore what adult white bait look like too.
