Operations to target illegal hunting at night will continue throughout the Tongariro/Taupo region during the hunting season by the Police and DOC. Hunting permits will also be a focus.

Date:  30 October 2012

With spring hunting in full swing, operations to target illegal hunting at night have begun and will continue throughout the hunting season. The operations will also focus on people having the appropriate permits for hunting on conservation land. The Police and the Department of Conservation are working together to achieve a safe environment for everyone.

Recent operations have shown a decrease in the number of people illegally hunting at night in public areas. Department of Conservation compliance officer Jill Welsh expresses, “Hunters appear to be taking more responsibility for hunting safely, which is very pleasing to see”.

Any sightings of illegal activity should be reported immediately to the Duty Officer + 64 27 442 4982. Hunting permits are available online or at your local DOC office.
