Minister of Conservation Hon Kate Wilkinson today announced the appointments to the Tongariro/Taupo Conservation Board.Date: 23 December 2010
Minister of Conservation Hon Kate Wilkinson today announced the appointments to the Tongariro/Taupo Conservation Board. “I am pleased to reappoint Alex Wilson of Rotorua to the Tongariro/Taupo Conservation Board”.
Alex Wilson is a past chair of the Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board’s Lake Taupo Water Care Committee. His outdoor interests are hunting, fishing, tramping and diving.
“I am also pleased to appoint Barbara Morris of Taupo, Colin Paton of Turangi, Campbell Speedy of Turangi and Neville Young of Wellington”.
Ms Morris has extensive recreational experience and local knowledge from being an executive member of Federated Mountain Clubs for the region. Her outdoor interests are mountain biking, fishing, tramping and boating.
Mr Paton is familiar with conservation issues relating to agriculture. His interests are in hunting and fishing in the central North Island and he is the initiator of the Ohaaki Wetlands project.
Mr Speedy is an ecologist for Genesis Energy. He has sound understanding of conservation and pest management issues in the local area. His outdoor interests are trout fishing and deer hunting.
Mr Young is a consultant and a lawyer. He is a former Chair of the Earthquake Commission and was the founding Chair of the New Zealand Electricity Commission. His outdoor interests are skiing, fishing and duck shooting.
The Minister thanked outgoing members Susan Carson, Maree Gurney, Sarah Gibb and Che Wilson for their significant contribution to the Tongariro/Taupo Conservation Board.
