Date:  17 June 2010

A new short DVD developed by the Department of Conservation '1080: Good News for Conservation' is being offered free to the public in the lead up to the 1080 possum control in the Waitutu area of Fiordland National Park.

DOC has also released a new leaflet called 'Protecting our Native Wildlife', which highlights the need for effective pest control including the use of 1080. This leaflet also investigates future pest control initiatives.

DOC Programme Manager Biodiversity Jessyca Bernard said for those interested in pest control operations, the DVD and leaflet provide a great opportunity to find out about the use of 1080 as the best option for pest control in the Waitutu and how it benefits native species.

“Those who want to find out specific information on the planned Waitutu pest control operation can also have their details added to an interested parties list and they will receive updates on the project,” Ms Bernard said.
