Introduction

DOC wants the public’s assistance with an unusual request to locate any photos taken of Moko (the bottlenose dolphin) with his teeth.

Date:  29 March 2010

DOC is seeking the public’s assistance with an unusual request to locate any photos taken of Moko (bottlenose dolphin) with his teeth exposed while he was in Gisborne (October 2009 to early January 2010).

Acting Area Manager, Awhina White says that Moko has recently been observed in Whakatane with some teeth missing and that DOC are concerned for his health.

“In particular, we are looking for any photos of Moko that show clearly his rear teeth. He is missing eight rear teeth, four teeth on each side and we are wondering if recent events may be the cause.  By locating photos we may be able to determine what his teeth were like in Gisborne and this can be examined along with other information.” says Ms White.
