Introduction

Minister of Conservation Hon Kate Wilkinson today announced the appointments to the Auckland Conservation Board.

Minister of Conservation Hon Kate Wilkinson today announced the appointments to the Auckland Conservation Board. “I am pleased to appoint Ross Aitken of Warkworth, Lawrence Beamish of Papakura, Martin Gummer of Auckland, Dianne Glenn of Auckland and Ian Rodger of Auckland to the Auckland Conservation Board”.

Mr Aitken has a broad range of people management skills. He is involved with his community action group on the restoration of Tawharanui Peninsula. His outdoor interests are kayaking and tramping.

Mr Beamish was previously a commercial fisher and charterer in the Northland and Coromandel areas. Mr Beamish brings understanding of public processes from his involvement with Mana Whenua forums and experience with the Resource Management and Local Government Acts. His outdoor interests are diving, surfing and boating.

Mr Gummer has previous board experience. His experience includes strategic and business planning and public advocacy. Mr Gummer has strong knowledge of New Zealand native flora and birdlife and is a keen conservation volunteer. His outdoor interests are gardening, landscaping and tennis.

Mrs Glenn brings a wide range of skills including the understanding of public processes on local and regional levels, policy development and implementation on environmental and pest management issues. Her outdoor interests are fishing, tramping and camping.

Mr Rodger is a current President of the New Zealand Federation of Freshwater Anglers and Chair of the Auckland Section of the NZ Institute of Agricultural Science. He is a fly-fisherman who understands the conservation issues affecting freshwater quality and land management.

The Minister thanked outgoing members Peter Crabb, Tomui Kaloni, Carmen Kirkwood, Estella Lee and Mark Woolford for their significant contribution to the Auckland Conservation Board.
