Associate Minister of Conservation Hon Kate Wilkinson today announced this year’s appointments to the Taranaki/Whanganui Conservation Board.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Wikitoria Keenan and the reappointments of Rachel Steele and Barney Haami to the board” Associate Minister said.

Wikitoria Keenan has filled the statutory appointment on behalf of the Taranaki Maori Trust Board. She has considerable experience working with various boards, councils and trusts and has a long involvement in conservation issues.

Rachel Steele has strong ties with her local community and has played a significant role in promoting tourism and conservation in Whanganui National Park.

Barney Haami is a representative of the Whanganui River Maori Trust Board. As a long-serving member of the conservation board, Barney has built up an extensive knowledge of conservation issues and the relationship between the Department of Conservation (DOC) and local iwi.

“I am confident that the makeup of the board provides a good cross-section of community perspectives and it will provide robust advice to the DOC on its policy and directions,” Associate Minister said.

Ms Wilkinson thanked retiring board members Ann Abernethy, Jonathan Procter and Huirangi Waikerepuru for their time and commitment during their tenure on the board and their contributions to conservation.
