Associate Minister of Conservation Hon Kate Wilkinson today announced this year’s appointments to the Otago Conservation Board.
“I’m pleased to announce the reappointment of Andrew Penniket and Dr Jim Williams and the appointment of Dr David Holdsworth to the board” Associate Minister said.
“Conservation boards play a vital role in conservation work and provide a way for local people to be part of conservation decisions. I wish the new member all the best for his first term, and the reappointed members for their further term.”
Dr David Holdsworth’s sound knowledge of New Zealand indigenous flora and the understanding of the tourism industry will be valuable to the board.
Andrew Penniket is a freelance underwater cameraman with an excellent knowledge of the marine environment and the Otago backcountry, particularly the area around Wanaka.
Dr Jim Williams is a lecturer at the University of Otago, School of Maori Studies. He has sound knowledge of the current and past relationship between mana whenua and the lands and waters in the Otago Conservancy.
Ms Wilkinson thanked retiring members Edna McAtamney, Mark Planner and Bruce Parker for their commitment and hard work during their time on the board.
