Associate Minister of Conservation Hon Kate Wilkinson has announced this year’s appointments to the Auckland Conservation Board, which were gazetted on 1 October 2009.
“I am pleased to appoint Thomas Grace to the board and to reappoint Dr Jacqueline Beggs,” Associate Minister said.
“The new makeup of the board represents a wide range of local communities in the Auckland region and will give sound advice to the Department of Conservation on its policy and directions. Conservation boards play a vital role in giving independent advice on local issues and are a way for local communities to be a part of conservation decisions.”
Dr Jacqueline Beggs is a senior lecturer at the Auckland University School of Biological Sciences, with extensive scientific expertise, who is intensively involved in community conservation initiatives as well as national and international projects.
Thomas Grace is a former Rodney District Councillor and practical conservationist with rural community involvement, who gifted a 2 hectare native bush reserve to Rodney District Council. He is a farmer with diverse recreational interests including forest running, motorsport official, competitor and vintage vehicle collector.
Ms Wilkinson thanked retiring board members Judith Gilbert, Jennifer Kirk and Kathleen Walsh for their efforts and commitment during their time on the board.
