DOC has completed the evaluation of its differential pricing trial and will rerun the trial unchanged for the 2019/20 season.
The seven-month trial (from October 2018 to April 2019) sought to provide valuable information on the effectiveness of pricing as a tool to manage visitor pressure. It is also part of DOC's work to set and maintain a fair pricing system for New Zealanders, recover costs and ensure the fees reflect the true value of these world-class walks.
The price increase set hut and campsite fees for international visitors at a level approximately double the current price for Milford, Routeburn, Kepler and Abel Tasman Coast tracks. All other Great Walks will remain at current prices for everyone.
Fees for international children 0–17 years will be applied and set to the same level as international adults on these Great Walks. New Zealand children remain free of charge.
