The seven-month trial (from October 2018 to April 2019) will provide valuable information on the effectiveness of pricing as a tool to manage visitor pressure. It is also part of DOC’s work to set and maintain a fair pricing system for New Zealanders, recover costs and ensure the fees reflect the true value of these world-class walks.
The price increase will set hut and campsite fees for international visitors at a level approximately double the current price for Milford, Routeburn, Kepler and Abel Tasman Coast tracks. All other Great Walks will remain at current prices for everyone.
Fees for international children 0-17 years will be applied and set to the same level as international adults on these Great Walks. New Zealand children remain free of charge.
