More snipe for Whenua Hou
20 Snares Island snipe were released on Whenua Hou

Yesterday 20 Snares Island snipe were released onto Whenua Hou (Codfish Island). This was the second  translocation of Snares Island snipe to Whenua Hou. The aim of this transfer was to top up the population with more genetic diversity.

The first transfer was in December 2012, when 30 snipe from Snares were translocated to Whenua Hou.

The snipe from the first translocation are doing well and have been seen breeding on Whenua Hou and are often heard calling in Sealers Bay.
