The boundary of the Te Waewae Bay Marine Mammal Sanctuary is a line from Pahia point to Sand Hill Point. The area covers approximately 35,906 ha and covers 112.93 km of coastline.

Marine mammal protection
All marine mammals are fully protected in New Zealand waters under the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978, which DOC administers.
