About this hunting block
Goats are generally the only animal hunted in this reserve, although pigs are also occasionally encountered. Animal numbers appear to be low, based on hunting returns.
Shotguns, .22 rifles, four-wheel-drive vehicles, motorbikes, quad bikes, horses and dogs are prohibited on DOC managed reserves where hunting is available in the north Auckland area.
No shooting is allowed within 200 metres of walking tracks.
Dogs
No dogs, including hunting dogs, are permitted in this reserve.
Additional information
- Permits issued online for other North Island 'open' hunting areas are not valid for reserves around Warkworth/North Auckland. Hunters must contact the DOC office to apply for a specific restricted permit.
- Notify neighbouring farm manager before going into the reserve – their contact number is included with the restricted permit.
- Follow Kauri dieback protocols.
- Stay within reserve boundaries (refer to map). Fence boundaries are within the bush in some parts. Contact DOC prior if unsure.
Protect kauri when you hunt
Native kauri are under threat from a disease commonly referred to as kauri dieback which can easily spread by soil movement from dirty footwear, animals, equipment and vehicles.
When hunting in this area be mindful of kauri and follow the kauri protection guidelines for hunting.
