Project number: 17
Location: Stewart Island/Rakiura
Dates
4 volunteers for 5 days
Monday 3 May to Friday 7 May 2027
Description
Raroa house and gardens were established in 1934 and is the former residence of Captain George Turner.
George was an avid conservationist and recognised the importance of protecting walks in the vicinity of Halfmoon Bay, that had been undamaged by early milling and land clearance. George planted many New Zealand natives on the 1.6 hectares of land now known as the Raroa Scenic Reserve.
This is a great opportunity to help restore this historic property on Stewart Island/Rakiura. Tasks will include painting, cleaning, weeding and basic building maintenance. There will also be time to visit some of the local tracks and other areas of interest around Halfmoon Bay.
