Description
This is an amazing opportunity to explore Fiordland’s beautiful lakes. Volunteers will carry out maintenance on huts around two or three of these lakes, with possible visits to Lake Manapouri, Lake Te Anau, Lake Hauroko or Monowai Lake.
Tasks will include cleaning, water blasting, small building repairs, painting, removing rubbish and clearing vegetation.
What to expect
Fitness/skill level
High fitness level. Volunteers must be agile and capable of getting in and out of a small boat confidently. They must also be able to carry personal gear and lots of heavy work equipment from the beach landings to the huts.
Accommodation
Basic backcountry huts. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own tents if they prefer more privacy.
Pickup/drop-off location and times
Meet at the DOC workshop, 19 Caswell Road, Te Anau at 9:00 am on Monday 8 March. Volunteers will be returned to the same location in the early afternoon on Friday 12 March.
Contribution towards food and transport
$125 per person.
