Get involved with Pouteria Charitable Trust and help with weeding and predator trapping on Waiheke Island.

Description

Pouteria Charitable Trust focuses on the restoration of indigenous natural ecosystems and the active conservation of indigenous species through pest plant and animal control on public land in and around Te Matuku Bay, at the eastern end of Waiheke Island.

You can help by contributing to pest plant control, baiting, bird counting, and track maintenance.

Tasks 

  • Pest plant control – targeting moth plant, asparagus, tobacco and other invasive species on public land.
  • Pest animal control – rat baiting across Te Matuku Bay Scenic Reserve using a network of 136 bait stations baited three times per year.
  • Monitoring and reporting – tracking progress through outcome statistics, audits, bird counts and pest plant surveys.

When

Pest plant control: October to April.
Baiting: Three times a year, for a maximum of 3 hours.
Bird count: Once or twice a year – usually in December or January.
