First Aid in the Outdoors: Field based courses

Introduction

This course will give you the confidence to look after a patient for a longer period of time (2-12 hours).

Description

The First Aid in the Outdoors course will give you the confidence to look after a patient (or patients) for a longer period of time (2–12 hours). Patient care, contacting emergency services, and group management are all part of this course, and you won't find them in a standard workplace course.

This 2-day course is useful for anyone that spends time in the outdoors for work or recreation. A formal assessment takes place during the course.

Assessment

The course will cover the following unit standards:

  • 26551 – Provide first aid
  • 26552 – Provide resuscitation level 2
  • 424 – Assess and manage an emergency care situation during an outdoor recreation activity.

How to enrol

This DOC field skills course is delivered and administered by Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) in partnership with DOC. For course dates, costs and venues, and how to enrol visit the NMIT website.
