Summary of proposal: The Applicants have each applied for a lease to continue occupation of part of Waikanae Creek Conservation Area – parking areas associated with the commercial use of their respective neighbouring properties.
The Applicants also intend to be able to undertake improvements to the site including:
- stormwater management,
- removal of infrastructure, and
- riparian planting.
Further work is planned to install swales (a shallow, vegetated channel) to help treat and filter water flowing toward Waikanae Creek, along with continued native planting along the riverbank.
The use of this site is historic and is now being formalised by way of a concession. Due to the need for exclusive use, a lease is required.
The Applicants are each seeking leases of 30 years.
