Consultation on the proposed protection areas closed at 5 pm on 28 October 2022.

In July 2022 DOC publicly notified a proposal to vest Te Paina (Mercer Domain Recreation Reserve) in Waikato-Tainui and classify the land as local purpose marae. Submissions closed 8 August 2022.

DOC and Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura are together preparing a new conservation management plan for Rangitahi/Molesworth Recreation Reserve.
