Paparoa National Park proposed addition – Yorke Creek

The Yorke Creek block was acquired by the Department via the Nature Heritage Fund in 2016 with the intention that it be added to the Paparoa National Park (see agenda paper attached). The land is 152 ha of lowland/podocarp forest in the Buller District on the West Coast. The block is an enclave of previously private land which is surrounded by public conservation land, nearly all of which is already Paparoa National Park.

The NZCA consulted with the Buller District Council, Ngati Waewae, Ngai Tahu, and the West Coast Tai Poutini Conservation Board – all support the proposed additions.

At its June 2017 meeting the NZCA resolved to recommend to you, as Minister of Conservation, that you recommend to the Governor-General that the area of land (referred to in the attached document as Yorke Creek) be added to the Paparoa National Park under section 7 of the National Parks Act 1980.

Yours sincerely

Dr Warren Parker
Chairman, NZCA
