The Waikato Conservation Board has a conservation advisory and community liaison role in the Waikato and Coromandel regions.

The board's primary role is to oversee the implementation of the Waikato Conservation Management Strategy. This involves:

  • focusing on local rather than national issues
  • improving our understanding of Tikanga Maori
  • making submissions to resource consent applications when the board can offer special support
  • encouraging a focus on wetland issues and continuing to support the National Wetland Trust.

The board meets four times a year at various locations. A public forum session where members of the public can talk to the board on conservation issues is held during each meeting. The full agenda for meetings is generally available one week before the meeting date from the board support officer.
