This plan provides guidance to the Department of Conservation in the management of Te Tapuwae o Rongokako Marine Reserve.

Summary

Te Tapuwae o Rongokako Marine Reserve will be managed to allow the marine life, ecosystem integrity and biodiversity to be restored and protected in recognition of:

  • the spiritual and intrinsic values of the area
  • the opportunities that the reserve provides for scientific study;
  • the recreational and educational benefits and public enjoyment that may be derived from this community taonga; and
  • the reserves ability to act as a kohanga (nest, nursery) to nurture kaimoana (seafood)
