Several trusts and concessionaires operate on each island alongside a DOC staff team. These operating procedures help those working on the islands protect their biodiversity and cultural landscapes. It also supports entities on the island to understand each other’s roles and sets expectations for interaction.
Rangitoto and Motutapu Islands are close to the heart of Auckland. They are part of the Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park, and amongst the 220 offshore islands that DOC manages.
