DOC and RealNZ are rolling up our sleeves for habitats and taonga species, backing one big project every year, and helping grow the next generation of conservationists.

doc-realnz-logo-lockup390.jpgBuilding on a relationship spanning more than a decade, the National Programme Partnership combines RealNZ's fundraising, advocacy and on-the-ground conservation efforts with DOC's conservation expertise to help deliver lasting outcomes for nature.

Working together for nature

RealNZ has a long history of actively supporting conservation across the places where it operates. Alongside fundraising, the company contributes directly to conservation work through hands-on mahi including species recovery, predator control and other local projects.

The partnership reflects a shared belief that conservation is a collective responsibility. By connecting visitors with nature and providing opportunities for people to support conservation, RealNZ helps foster greater awareness and action for the natural environment.

It takes many hands to do this mahi
Like checking a few thousand traps
And restoring this island in Fiordland
And looking after these little guys
Turns out - the more hands,
the more we can do.
We've been working with DOC for many years
So, we thought we'd make it official.
All hands on nature.

Supporting priority projects

Since 2015, RealNZ has supported a priority conservation project through its fundraising activities. In 2026, that support went to kiwi pukupuku / little spotted kiwi, helping return the species from Kapiti Island to Ao-Ata-Te-Pō / Cooper Island in Fiordland. Through the annual Night for Nature fundraising event and the 1% for Conservation initiative from online bookings, RealNZ raised more than $300,000 for the project. This builds on a decade of predator control work led by the company on Ao-Ata-Te-Pō / Cooper Island under a Community Agreement with DOC.

This new partnership enables DOC and RealNZ, along with iwi and community partners, to take a more proactive approach to fundraising by working together to identify priority conservation projects where funding, advocacy and action can deliver the greatest impact for nature.
