Assess your seabird-safe fishing
Find out how seabird-safe your fishing is.

This toolkit is in development. Send feedback to toolkit@doc.govt.nz.

The seabird-safety of your fishing depends on whether there are threatened seabirds where you fish, and what seabird-safe practices you use.

How to assess your seabird-safe practices:

  1. Use the seabird map to find out if you fish in a high risk, medium risk or low risk zone.
  2. Select what seabird-safe practices you currently use from the options listed below.

High-risk zone

Best seabird safety: Threatened seabirds are unlikely to be caught – you have minimised captures

Medium-risk zone

Best seabird safety: Threatened seabirds are unlikely to be caught – you have minimised captures

Low-risk zone

Best seabird safety: Threatened seabirds are unlikely to be caught – you have minimised captures

This practice (or combination of practices) provides best seabird safety. Therefore, no additional improvements are required.
