Published:

March 2009

A guide to the great range of walking opportunities in the Westport and lower Buller area.

Summary

Walking opportunities in the area include short walks and overnight tramps giving visitors the chance to see historic sites and spectacular views of coastline and forest.

If you are interested in historic sites then the Denniston and Millerton areas provide a number walks which explore historic sites, some of which have been restored. Some walks follow old transport systems. In contrast the Cape Foulwind Walkway provides spectacular sea views, a seal colony, and a lighthouse.

Weather and track conditions are very changeable so it is advisable to check with the nearest Department of Conservation office or visitor information centres to check current track conditions.
