Walks in the Hokitika area, from Kumara to Ross brochure

Published:

June 2009

This brochure provides information about the enormous range of recreational opportunities for which Hokitika is the gateway.

Summary

This brochure covers some areas and tracks managed by the Department of Conservation from Kumara to Ross. This area includes the popular Lakes Kaniere and Mahinapoua which offer camping picnicking, swimming, boating and walks.

There are many short walks for people who are just passing through with a few hours or a day to spare. There are a number of longer tramps for the more hardened explorers. These routes pass through large areas of bush that still exist in the back country and are more suitable for experienced trampers and hunters. Some tracks are suitable for mountain biking.

The brochure also contains information about average times for tracks, dogs and domestic animals and safety information.
