Summary

The Haast area is a diverse region offering a wide variety of scenery, chances to view wildlife and many recreational opportunities. It is a special area containing part of the Mt Aspiring National Park and the Te Wahi Pounamu World Heritage Area.

A dramatic coastline and unspoiled natural environments can be seen by visitors as they travel State Highway 6, part of the heritage highway system. Viewpoints along the highway provide photo opportunities.

Recreational opportunities include walks which range from short walks to longer tramping tracks. The Haast region has a number of short walks giving visitors the opportunity to look at special places, waterfalls, estuaries and dunes.

The Haast Visitor Centre is worth a visit offering information on recreational opportunities, accommodation, a short film, and interpretation displays, souvenirs and other services.
