Summary

This booklet provides an overview of the glacier region and introduces aspects of the region's natural and human history with information on topics such as forests and farms, the weather, whitebait, botany, forest ecology, glaciers, Ngai Tahu, goldmining, tourism, world heritage areas and the Department's work.

It is divided into sections and gives you information about walks in the Ross to Whataroa area, around Okarito, close to the Franz Josef/Waiau village, around Fox Glacier/Weheka and Gillespies Beach.

Colourfully illustrated with photos and location maps, it also contains information about campsites in the area, safety issues and travel times. The booklet is available from visitor centres.
