Summary
A 28 page brochure with maps and text detailing the many walks and tramping tracks in and near Pirongia Forest Park. Pirongia mountain is a distinctive landmark 25 kilometres south-west of Hamilton, at 959 metres above sea level, various lookouts on Pirongia provide views of the Waikato Basin across to the Kaimai Ranges and the west coast harbours. 13,500 ha of bush covered slopes of the mountain are protected and form part of the Pirongia Forest Park. Also part of the park, Karioi Mountain north-west of Pirongia, rises sharply from the Raglan coastline to 756 metres.
Tramping tracks provide access to the top of both mountains, with easier grade tracks on the lower flanks of Pirongia. Other walks between Hamilton and Raglan are also featured in this publication; these include Waireinga/Bridal Veil Falls, Karakariki and the Karamu Walkway.
