South Island places to walk your dog brochure

Published:

April 2008

Read guidelines and discover where you can take your dog on public conservation land in the South Island.

Summary

This publication is a guide to the places where dogs are permitted on public conservation land in the South Island (this includes conservation areas, national parks and other reserves managed by the Department of Conservation).

Dog owners who take their dogs into 'no access' areas, controlled areas without a permit, or breach the conditions of their permit are liable to prosecution. A dog may be seized and impounded or destroyed if it is found in a national park or controlled dog area without a permit.

You will find information in this brochure on when and where permits are needed and other access conditions when visiting dog approved sites.
