Summary
This resource has been developed to assist teachers in providing an interesting and exciting outdoor education experience at Punakaiki.
The landscape there is a unique mix of karst limestone, coastal forests, sea cliffs, rocky shores, lagoons, and human history and use, both Maori and European. It is an ideal place for a school camp or day trip as there are many things to do and study in a small area. If your group is after a more challenging exercise, Punakaiki is also close to the start of several over night tramps.
This educational resource contains background information on the natural and human history of the area, curriculum objectives and suggestions for class and site-based activities.Getting there information is included and other things to take into consideration to help you plan your class trip.
