Lake Okataina Scenic Reserve is a pristine natural area with native bush down to the waters edge. Students can study its cultural history, geology, pests, flora and fauna.


Summary

This environmental education resource is designed to give you ideas for planning exciting and experiential learning activities outside the classroom. It is one of six specially designed environmental education resources that focus on sites administered by the Department of Conservation in the Bay of Plenty. These 'Super Sites' are ideal for learning about forests, endangered species, lakes and geothermal environments.

This kit provides site location maps, pre-visit and post visit activities for your outdoor education experience and includes safety considerations and background reading for teachers. Curriculum links are provided and a series of teacher's study sheets covering a range of topics pertinent to the area.

This resource is designed to be used alongside the "Exploring the Forest" or "Lake Okataina" resources, and provides background information of the area, and points out the special features and cultural history more specific to Lake Okataina Scenic Reserve.
