Summary
Wildfires put lives at risk, destroy property and devastate natural areas. They pose a serious risk to public conservation lands and their natural, cultural, historic and recreation values.
The Northland Wildfire Prevention Education Programme aims to provide a New Zealand curriculum-compliant teaching programme that delivers the message of wildfire prevention to students and their wider community.
Students will:
- Learn the message - through the teaching programme;
- Retain the message - by applying it to follow-up activities;
- Convey the message - to their wider community through take home activities.
Key messages of the Northland Wildfire Prevention Education Programme for Schools:
- Young people can be the teachers of others;
- Look after what we have now for later;
- Fire starters are held responsible for their actions and consequent damage;
- Preventing wildfires means preserving nature and property;
- Prevent wildfires and everybody wins;
- Wildfires cost, so save yourself, your friends or your family a fortune;
