Vehicle access at Lake Heron decision

Published:

September 2008

This document details the decision made on extended vehicle access at Lake Heron, South Canterbury. Documents related to the decision are also listed.

Background

Following a review, there is now a decision on extended vehicle access at Lake Heron, South Canterbury. There will be managed and controlled vehicle access from the lake inlet to Harrisons Bight but, in order to protect the area's outstanding natural values, there will be no boat access and no boat launching facility over this section of the lake.

The current situation

Now that we have resolved resource consent and operational issues, we are able to reopen this four-wheel-drive (4WD) access track for public use.

Access to the track will be through a locked gate and those wishing to use it will need to obtain a permit for each season.
