Publication information

Cover of Plant me instead.

Most weeds can be replaced with similar more environmentally-friendly alternatives. This booklet is intended to guide your choice. It suggests native and exotic plant species that can be used as alternatives to pest plants or environmental weeds in the lower North Island.

The booklet is largely based on Friendly Alternatives, first published by Auckland Regional Council in 1997 and revised in 2003. This version results from the combined efforts of the Department of Conservation, Greater Wellington Regional Council, other city and district councils in the Lower North Island, the Nursery & Garden Industry Association and the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Sciences (NIWA), with support from the New Zealand Plant Conservation Network.
