Doubtful Sound/Patea and Dusky Sound bottlenose dolphins: Comparative visual health assessment using dorsal fin photographs and photogrammetry

Published:

February 2009

This report details a comparative study of Fiordland's Doubtful and Dusky Sound bottlenose dolphins in 2008.

Summary

Research has shown the Doubtful Sound bottlenose dolphin population to be declining. In order to understand more about why this may be occurring, a study was carried out to take a preliminary look at several aspects of this and the neighbouring Dusky Sound population. As part of routine monitoring, information was also collected on calf size and skin lesion rates and compared between the two populations. The report details the findings of this study.
