Rowi - the rarest of them all brochure

Published:

2011

With around 375 birds left in 2011, rowi are the rarest of the world’s five species of kiwi. This title unfortunately earns them a place on the ‘nationally critical’ list.

Summary

In a small area of forest near Ōkārito, rowi are fighting for survival.

Introduced predators such as possums and stoats, as well as domesticated cats and dogs, are killing off this national taonga (treasure).

The only remaining natural population of rowi is found in Ōkārito Kiwi Zone - 11,000 hectares of protected forest northwest of Franz Josef/Waiau village.

This brochure outlines some interesting facts about rowi, their enemies, their friends BNZ Save the Kiwi Trust, and how you too can help.
